OpenMFG Supports New Qt Version 3.3

ERP developer taps advanced functionality of updated application framework

Norfolk, VA, February 4, 2004- OpenMFG, the only company using open source software to bring full-featured enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications to small manufacturers, today announced its support for Qt version 3.3.0, recently released by Trolltech®.

With the release of version 3.3, Qt gains support for a variety of new technologies, including Microsoft™ .NET platform, 64-bit processing, and IPv6. Qt already provides solutions such as SOAP support, automatic GUI dialog conversion and support for migrating legacy MFC-based applications to Qt, allowing MFC and Qt code to co-exist during the porting process.

In addition, Qt Script for Applications (QSA) 1.1 has been released. QSA is Trolltech's add-on scripting toolkit for Qt-based applications. Several new features have been added, including a utility framework, an extension library for giving scripters file access and shell execution possibilities, script project handling, and other useful classes making scripting even more powerful. OpenMFG leverages QSA to provide a framework for enhancements to its ERP system by developer partners who wish to provide custom interfaces and automate certain tasks without touching application source code.

"With our support for Qt 3.3 and QSA 1.1, OpenMFG reaffirms our commitment to Trolltech's open, standards-based, cross-platform approach," said Jeff Lyon, OpenMFG President and CTO. "We look forward to continuing to work with Qt to provide cutting-edge technology to our customers and partners."

All OpenMFG products are built with robust open source components including the Linux operating system, the PostgreSQL database, and Qt framework for C++, and Qt/E for Embedded Linux. This underlying technology, invisible to the user, enables OpenMFG and its partners to deliver sophisticated ERP functionality at a very low total cost of ownership. It also enables a true multiplatform solution for individual workstations; the OpenMFG Client runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and various commercial Unix systems. The OpenMFG Embedded Client can run on any number of embedded Linux platforms. By leveraging this open source "stack," and through an innovative partner program which borrows from the open source software development process, OpenMFG brings a competitive new approach to a sorely underserved market.
